Fareham & Gosport Resettlement and Floating Support

Acton Lodge

Acton Lodge

Acton Lodge is a Two Saints secondary stage hostel for single homeless people. The main referral route into this supported accommodation is through the Two Saints Direct Access Hostel in Fareham and through other statutory agencies.

This project is a large house containing 10 single furnished bedrooms, one of which has disabled access. The house has a fully fitted kitchen, an IT suite, a communal TV lounge and dining area.

Acton Lodge offers accommodation to individuals who have begun to address the issues that contributed to their homelessness. The residents are encouraged to commit to a programme of support designed to facilitate their development of life skills and self development in order to make the transition into independent living.

Acton Lodge support can include finding and maintaining appropriate permanent accommodation, support with learning or re-learning life skills, welfare benefit advice and advice on accessing community facilities and other services. Acton Lodge has recently been awarded the Supporting People Charter award for their commitment to service user involvement.

Fareham and Gosport Sublet Scheme

The Fareham and Gosport Sublet scheme is a joint enterprise between Two Saints and both local councils.

When a suitable candidate is accepted into the scheme by way of formal referral, the council will provide Two Saints with a property which is then offered to the applicant. Upon acceptance the applicant will agree to receive support from the resettlement team for 12 months. During this time they will receive support with all aspects of running and maintaining a tenancy.

After this period if the tenant has engaged with the resettlement team and achieved the goals set out in the support plan, a report will be compiled and presented to the council. If this demonstrates that the tenant can maintain the property, they will sign it over to the occupant as an assured tenancy. However if the tenant is not coping and can not demonstrate the desired tenancy management skills, there are several options still available. This could include an extension on the duration of sublet, or a move back into the staging programme to further address the problems encountered. This will in no way affect any future housing applications.

For several years the Sublet scheme has proved to be a valuable and much needed option for those seeking to develop and maintain the skills needed to live independently.

Two Saints is grateful to both local authorities for their support.
