Mill House Direct Access Hostel

Mill House is situated between St Mary's Hospital and Kingston Prison in Portsmouth and has been helping homeless people since 1977.

We are able to accommodate 47 single homeless men and women between the ages of 18 to 65 in single rooms with use of communal lounges and facilities. Clients with dogs can also be accommodated.

The hostel is staffed 24 hours a day and offers a fully catered service of food and laundry, as well as access to our visiting nurse and GP surgery. Residents are encouraged to participate in the running of the project with regular house and menu planning meetings.

All clients will be part of the Key Working system and will have a designated support worker offering support in assessment and support planning during a client's stay. Then, when the time is right, they will also help in finding appropriate move on accommodation.

Mill House also offers a tenancy sustainment training package and opportunities to engage in learning activities, arts and crafts, sport and leisure, voluntary work and help with seeking employment via the support staff and specialist learning team. A fully equipped IT suite and training kitchen facilities are available to clients and activities to develop other practical skills. We rely on continuous feedback and new ideas from our clients to ensure that activities are current and relevant.  

Mill House is the first of Two Saints' direct access hostels to receive an 'Award for Excellence' from the client led Project Assessment Team in May 2009, for providing an excellent service to its clients. Michelle White (Team Leader) is pictured (right) receiving the award along with Two Saints' Chief Executive, Louise Barnden, PAT members and clients of Mill House.
