Jordan Thurston
“If it wasn’t for the support of Two Saints I wouldn’t have gone to college - something which I really enjoy!
Jordon Thurston, a 20 year old resident at our Newbury Hostel had dreamt of a career in the sports industry before he ended up on the streets. Two Saints are helping him to achieve that dream. As well as encouraging him to participate in weekly football training organised by the hostel, we have supported him to study a Sports Diploma at college and are funding equipment for his course. For someone who once thought he had no future, Jordon now has high expectations for the years ahead. He’s re-found his confidence and is even organising a football tournament.
Jordon plays for the The Newbury Saints FC team, and along with other residents at the hostel enjoys regular football training sessions, to help boost confidence, improve fitness and develop team work skills.
Football has proved such a fun and effective way to engage with homeless clients – particularly younger people - that several Two Saints’ resident teams have been set up to play in a special homeless league run by the FA.
Jordan says:
“It’s not the winning, it’s being part of a team that’s the achievement.”
